The Teacher's Corner Resources Birthday Graphs Grades K-4
Birthday Graph Bulletin BoardA favorite back-to-school bulletin board is one that displays class birthdays. Your imagination is the limit when it comes to creating this display. You can use colored paper or fabric as your background. You may use purchased birthday-related shapes from your local teacher supply store, or you may want to have students create their own. Be sure to also use this bulletin board as a math lesson when it's all done. You can ask students a variety of questions about your picture graph.

The Teacher's Corner Resources Cubby People Grades K-6
Cubby PeopleThis is a slight variation on the typical bulletin board, but it's a great way to start off the school year. Using a body outline, students decorate the body to reflect themselves. The decorated people are then fastened to or near that student's cubby. You can even allow students to take a photo of their face to print, cut and attach to the body.

The Teacher's Corner Resources Magazine Cut-Outs
I like to take old magazines and cut out the pictures (making sure to go right along the edges) that deal with back to school. You can find pictures in parenting magazines, women's magazines, etc. I laminate them then place them on my board. This is great on a smaller board, allowing for magazines to be recycled and provides a "real" look and feel to the board. **In fact, you can do this with just about any idea/month/season. Try it!

The Teacher's Corner Resources Meet the ___ Graders Grades K-6
Comic LifeLooking for a fun way to integrate technology into your back-to-school lessons? Students can use Comic Life software (or another free web-based software) to create a comic about themselves. They can use photos that they have brought from home (scanning any paper photos) to share more about themselves. Displaying these printed documents in the hallway is a great display for Open House.

The Teacher's Corner Resources School Mascot Grades K-6
School MascotAs you begin a new school year with your students, provide them the opportunity to learn more about your school's mascot. They can also examine what it means to have school pride and exhibit certain characteristics related to the school mascot (e.g. pride, strength, etc.) Once students have done their research and reflecting they can write up their information and draw/paint a picture to go with their writing.

The Teacher's Corner Resources Student Work Grades K-6
Student WorkHere is a great way to make your students' work a permanent bulletin board. Display their stories, poems, riddles, etc. inside of sheet protectors. First, staple up your pieces of construction paper. (You may decide to change these throughout the year.) Next, staple up a clear, plastic sheet protector - making sure that you leave the top open to insert papers. Finally, you can attach a fun shape (maybe something related to your room's theme) to each of the squares. You can either write students' names or numbers on these shapes.
